Bifold doors are popular home upgrades in 2026. Here's an honest breakdown of what they cost in Yorkshire and what affects the final price.

If you live in Yorkshire and are considering upgrading your home with bifold doors, you probably have a few questions.

And perhaps the most important question is this: "How much do bifold doors cost, exactly?'

To help you plan your budget and your home improvement project, here's an honest guide to bifold door prices in Yorkshire and the wider UK.

Do Yorkshire prices differ from the rest of the UK?

Bifold door prices in Yorkshire are usually about the same as the UK average.

Labour costs are higher in London and the South East, which makes installation more expensive there. In Yorkshire, installers tend to use national pricing standards.

Quotes will vary depending on the installer and the options you choose. However, the UK-wide prices in this guide are a helpful starting point for homeowners in Wakefield, Leeds, Normanton, and nearby areas.

What does a bifold door cost in 2026?

Bifold door prices vary widely, and the numbers can be confusing without details.

In 2026, most people will pay between £1,800 and £6,500 for a standard supply-and-fit job. This range comes from differences in materials, opening size and the number of panels – not from inconsistent pricing.

If you need structural changes, such as opening a wall and adding steel supports, costs can rise to £8,000 or even £15,000 or more. For most people replacing an existing opening or adding bifold doors to a new extension, the structural work is already included. That means the supply-and-fit price is usually the main cost.

A simple way to estimate the total cost is to multiply the price per panel by the number of panels.

For example, a quality aluminium bifold door usually costs £1,500 to £3,000 per panel, including supply and installation. If you want a three-panel set for a kitchen extension, multiply the per-panel price by three to get your total. In this case, you should use the lower end of the price range (around £1,500).

For larger setups, such as five or six panels spanning a whole wall, use the higher per-panel price (£3,000).

Always check that your installer's per-panel quote covers both supply and fitting, not just the door.

How material choice affects the price

The material you choose has a big effect on the price. uPVC is the cheapest option, with three to five panels costing between £2,000 and £4,500. It is durable, easy to maintain and comes in many colours, making it a good choice if you are on a budget.

Aluminium is the most popular choice and costs £3,150 to £4,670 for three to five panels. It is stronger than uPVC, has slimmer frames and more glass and is commonly chosen for modern extensions and open-plan rooms.

Timber bifold doors cost about the same as aluminium but need more maintenance. Timber works well for period properties and traditional styles.

How size and configuration affect the price

Apart from the material, the size of the opening and the number of panels you choose are the main factors that affect the price.

A three-panel set for a standard-width opening is the most common home installation and is usually at the lower end of the price range. This goes for any material option.

As the opening widens and you add more panels, the cost increases. A six-panel aluminium installation across the full rear wall of a kitchen extension is a much bigger project than a three-panel set in a smaller opening.

How you configure the panels affects both how the door works and the cost. Panels can fold to one side or split across both sides. And some setups include a traffic door – a single panel that opens on its own and is useful for daily use. Not all layouts have this feature, so think about it early in your planning.

Glazing, hardware and finishes

The door is only part of the total cost. Glazing type, hardware and colour finish also add to the final price.

Glazing

Double glazing is standard for most bifold doors. Triple glazing is available and improves thermal performance, but it adds weight and costs more. This increase in cost, however, may well be worth it when you factor in long-term savings on energy bills.

Hardware

Hardware quality is more important than many buyers realise. The running gear, hinges and locks all affect how the door performs day to day and how well it lasts.

Unlike cheaper options, premium hardware runs smoothly, stays aligned and does not become stiff or misaligned over time.

Colour

The colour finish is another cost to consider. Standard RAL colours are usually included in the base price. Custom or special-order RAL colours may cost a bit more.

Dual-colour options, where the outside and inside faces are finished differently, are available for most aluminium doors and add a small extra cost.

Does installation affect the final cost?

Yes. The door and installation are separate costs, and fitting is just as important as the product you choose.

Installation usually costs between £150 and £500 per day, and most standard bifold installations take one to two days. That means labour alone can cost between £150 and £1,000 for a typical home job, before any structural work is included.

The biggest difference between installers is not the day rate, but the quality and care of their work. A bifold door that is not level, not sealed properly or not adequately supported will cause problems, no matter how good the door is.

Issues like misalignment, draughts, hard-to-move panels and water leaks are usually caused by poor installation, not by the product itself.

Why cutting corners on installation is a false economy

Cutting costs on installation often leads to frustration and additional expenses later.

A bifold door is a precision product. The panels, the track, the hinges and the locking points all need to be correctly aligned and secured for the door to operate as it should.

That alignment depends entirely on the accuracy and care of the installation. A door fitted slightly out of level or into an opening that has not been correctly prepared will never operate as well as it should. That remains true regardless of the manufacturer's specification.

Weatherproofing is also important. If a bifold door is not sealed and flashed properly at the top and bottom, water will get in over time. In West Yorkshire, where wind-driven rain is common, this is not simply a risk. It will definitely happen if the installation is not done right.

A poorly installed bifold door can also void the product warranty, leaving you with no support if problems arise. Fixing a bad installation, including any disruption or damage to your home, almost always costs more than what you saved by hiring a cheaper installer.

How to get the best value without compromising quality

You get the best value by making educated choices, not by cutting corners.

Ask for at least three quotes from FENSA-registered installers to ensure you get certified work that meets standards.

Prices for the same specification can vary by up to 50%, so comparing quotes from several installers is the best way to avoid overpaying.

Be clear about what you want before asking for quotes. Knowing the material, the size of the opening and the configuration helps installers give you like-for-like quotes, so you can compare them easily.

Also, ask about finance options. Many good installers offer payment plans so you don't have to pay everything up front.
