Composite doors across West Yorkshire and Wakefield
Calder Windows - Composite Doors
A composite door is a solid insulated core wrapped in a weatherproof outer skin. The construction means it doesn’t warp like timber, doesn’t flex like uPVC, and holds its finish in Yorkshire weather for decades. For most front doors, it’s the best choice on the market.
We fit composite doors across West Yorkshire and in Wakefield, in every configuration from standard single-leaf fronts to bespoke glazed side-panels and double-door entrances.
Why composite is the default for front doors
Photos online give you about 20% of the information you need to make a decent decision. A showroom visit gives you the rest. Here’s what you can only judge in person.
Security that actually holds up
A proper composite door is built around a solid core of high-density foam or glass-reinforced plastic, with reinforced hinge plates, anti-bump and anti-snap locks, and multi-point locking as standard. The slab weight alone deters most opportunist break-ins. Add Secured by Design accreditation on qualifying ranges and you’re ahead of almost everything else on the market.
Thermal performance
The insulated core means a composite door outperforms almost every timber and uPVC alternative for heat retention. Combined with the multi-point seal around the frame, you stop draughts and the cold air that comes with them.
Looks that last
A composite door’s outer skin is bonded to the core and finished to handle rain, frost, sun, and the inevitable scuffs of daily use. It won’t fade, warp, rot, or need sanding every few years.
Kerb appeal
It’s the most visible upgrade on a house and one of the first things a buyer or valuer notices. A quality composite door done in the right colour with the right hardware changes how the whole front of a house reads.
What’s on the composite door range
Colours
Standard colours include: anthracite grey, chartwell green, rosewood, Irish oak, light oak, cream, dark grey, black, red, blue, and more. Dual colour is available (different inside and outside) on most ranges. We’ll show you the exact options when you visit.
Glass panels
Clear, obscured, decorative, stained glass effect, leaded, etched, or frosted. The panel is often where the door gets its personality, and we carry a wide range of designs from traditional to contemporary.
Hardware
Handles in chrome, brushed stainless, black, gold, or antique finishes. Matching letter plates, knockers, spyholes, numerals, and door chains. Chubb locks fitted as standard on most ranges.
Slab styles
Panelled, plank, cottage, contemporary minimalist, country farmhouse, or Art Deco. Every range has a different set of slab designs and we’ll show you which ones fit which property style.
Composite vs uPVC, plain answer
Our uPVC casements are built for UK weather, specced for modern energy efficiency, and shaped to suit both traditional and contemporary homes.
Pick composite if
- It’s the front door (where visibility and security matter most)
- You want better insulation
- You want a door that’s going to last 25 to 35 years
- You care about kerb appeal and resale value
- Break-in security is a concern for the property
Pick uPVC if
- It’s a back door or side door where the cost matters more than the aesthetic
- You want matching finish with your uPVC windows
- The budget is very tight
Upgrading to the Premium Collection
Our Premium Collection sits a level above standard composite. Thicker slabs, upgraded hardware, more colour choices, better glass panel options, and stronger security specification. Worth considering for front doors on higher-value properties and forever homes.
Rockdoor as an alternative
If security is your primary driver, we’d point you towards Rockdoor. It’s a different construction from standard composite (glass-reinforced plastic with internal reinforcement plates) and it tests better in real-world break-in scenarios than almost anything else we fit.
The install
Composite door replacement is usually a single-day job, often half a day for a straightforward swap. Every install includes:
- Removal of the old frame and door
- Checking and preparing the opening
- Fitting the new frame with weatherproof seals
- Hanging and adjusting the door
- Fitting hardware and testing locks
- Clean-up and walk-through
Every door is FENSA-signed off and comes with a 10-year guarantee* on most products.

Composite door FAQs
How long do composite doors last?
25 to 35 years for a quality door with proper installation. The core and skin rarely fail. Hardware may need replacing before the slab does.
Are composite doors waterproof?
Yes. The outer skin is sealed, and the frame comes with multi-point weather seals.
Can I pick the glass design?
Yes. We have a wide range of panel designs for you to choose from, from traditional leaded to contemporary etched.
Do composite doors come with Secured by Design accreditation?
Yes on qualifying ranges. We’ll confirm which ones when you come to quote.
How much does a composite door cost?
It varies with the range, size, glass, and hardware. We’ll give you a written quote after a free measure-up. No hidden costs.
Are composite doors worth the extra money?
For a front door, almost always yes. They outlast cheaper options and they protect the home in ways uPVC and timber can’t match.
