Aluminium windows across Yorkshire
Aluminium windows
When you want the slimmest sightlines, the biggest glass area, and a finish that won’t fade in 20 years of Yorkshire weather, aluminium is the window to fit. Our aluminium ranges are thermally broken, powder-coated, available in any RAL colour, and built for contemporary homes, renovations, and self-builds where the frame needs to almost disappear.
Why homeowners choose aluminium
Most of our aluminium windows in Yorkshire go into contemporary renovations, extensions, and architect-designed projects.
Slim sightlines
The main reason. Aluminium is structurally stronger than uPVC, which means the frame can be thinner while still carrying the glass. More glass, more light, and a cleaner aesthetic. On a modern build with floor-to-ceiling glazing, the difference is dramatic.
A finish that lasts
Powder-coated aluminium doesn’t chalk, fade, or peel the way painted timber does, and it doesn’t yellow the way very cheap uPVC can over decades. A quality aluminium window looks the same 25 years later as it did on fitting day.
Any RAL colour
Not just the standard window colours. Any RAL shade, any finish, matt or gloss, textured or smooth. Architects and design-led homeowners choose aluminium specifically for this flexibility.
Strength for bigger openings
Where you want a single large pane rather than a frame split by mullions, aluminium gives you the structural capacity to do it without compromising security or rigidity.
Where aluminium windows fit best
Contemporary new-builds
If you’re building a modern home, aluminium is almost certainly the right specification. Slim profiles, big glass, and colour options that suit modern architecture.
Renovations and extensions
On a period property with a modern rear extension, aluminium windows at the back and sash or flush sash at the front is a common and smart specification. Keep the character at the front, open up the back.
Self-builds
Most of our self-build customers spec aluminium on anything visible and want the thinnest frame possible.
Commercial and multi-unit projects
Office refurbs, apartment buildings, and mixed-use schemes also use aluminium for durability and consistent finish. We quote these too.
What you get from a Calder aluminium fit
Thermally broken profiles
A thermal break is an insulating layer inside the aluminium frame that stops heat leaking out through the metal. Our aluminium windows are all thermally broken as standard, which is why they can hit A-rated energy efficiency despite being metal.
High-performance glazing
Double glazing as standard, 40mm triple glazing available. Warm-edge spacers, low-E coatings, and argon fill all standard.
Security as standard
Multi-point locking, reinforced hardware, internally glazed units, and options that meet Secured by Design accreditation on qualifying products.
Colours and finishes
- Standard: anthracite grey (most popular), black, white, RAL 9005 jet black, RAL 7016 anthracite
- Textured matt finishes for a contemporary look that hides minor marks
- Dual colour different inside and outside (often white inside, anthracite outside)
- Any RAL colour on request for design-led schemes
Aluminium vs uPVC, honestly
We fit both. We’ll be straight with you about when each makes sense.
- Pick uPVC if: cost matters most, the style is traditional, you want the lowest price for A-rated performance, and thicker frames don’t bother you.
- Pick aluminium if: sightlines matter, the home is contemporary, you want a colour or finish uPVC can’t deliver, or you’re specifying a large single pane of glass where uPVC wouldn’t take the load.
The install
Aluminium is heavier than uPVC, which means proper handling and slightly different fitting techniques. Our team is trained on the ranges we fit, and we take care with the surrounding finishes because a slim aluminium frame leaves nowhere for untidy fitting to hide.
Typical installs take one to three days. FENSA-signed off, 10-year guarantee* on most products.
Where we fit aluminium windows
Across West and South Yorkshire. Aluminium work is concentrated in Leeds, Harrogate, Ilkley, Wetherby, and the contemporary new-build developments around Wakefield and York. Also popular in period property rear extensions across the region.
Aluminium window FAQs
Are aluminium windows energy efficient?
Yes, as long as they’re thermally broken. All of the aluminium windows we fit have a thermal break as standard, and they hit A-rated performance with double glazing.
Do they rust?
No. Aluminium doesn’t rust. The powder-coated finish also protects against corrosion and scratches.
Can I get any colour?
Effectively yes. Any RAL colour is available on order. Standard anthracite and black are in stock with shorter lead times.
Are they more expensive than uPVC?
Yes, typically significantly. The material, the manufacturing, and the finish all cost more. You’re paying for sightlines, durability, and aesthetic.
How long do aluminium windows last?
A quality thermally broken aluminium window should last 30 to 45 years with no maintenance beyond cleaning. Longer than uPVC and far longer than timber.
