A bungalow conservatory in Grange Moor (and a party for the team who built it)

Customer - Mr Grice

Location - Grange Moor, West Yorkshire

Property - Detached stone bungalow

Work done - A new conservatory with a solid tiled roof, around 20 rosewood windows, French doors and two new external doors

How he found us - Google reviews, and wanting to support a local firm

The result - More room, a place to enjoy the garden, and a home that looks lifted

Mr Grice wanted more room and somewhere dedicated to enjoying his garden. So we built a new conservatory on his stone bungalow in Grange Moor, then replaced around 20 windows and his external doors too.

The result? A bright new room he now uses for teaching, a home that looks lifted, and a friendship with the team. He even threw them a party in the conservatory they built.

Mr Grice’s old windows were light wood-coloured double glazing, in a different shape to the new ones. Most of the sealed units had blown. That’s when the seal fails and moisture gets between the panes, so the glass mists up and stops insulating properly.

He also wanted more space, and a room that made the most of the garden. A bungalow is a great fit for that, because a conservatory adds living space on the same level as the rest of the home.

Thinking about adding space to your bungalow?

That’s how we like to work. A straight price, then the space to decide in your own time.

He started where most people do: Google. He wanted someone in the area, read our Google reviews and liked what he saw. Keeping it local mattered to him too.

“Looked at Google reviews and saw they had good reviews. Like to support local firms.”  - Mr Grice, Grange Moor

We’re a family-run firm based in Normanton, and we’ve been fitting windows, doors and conservatories across West Yorkshire for more than 30 years.

The old windows were 15 to 20 years old and started life white. When Mr Wilks moved in, he had them painted black, which looked better than the original white. But paint can only do so much.

A bungalow conservatory with a solid tiled roof

The conservatory sits on low stone walls that match the house. It has a solid tiled roof in the same dark grey as the main roof, so it looks like it has always been there.

Inside, there’s a plastered ceiling with spotlights. It feels like a proper room, not a greenhouse, and it makes the most of the garden views.

Rosewood windows all round

We replaced around 20 windows across the bungalow. Mr Grice chose a rosewood finish, rich rosewood outside and crisp white inside. It sits beautifully against the stone.

French doors and new external doors

French doors open from the conservatory straight onto the patio, so the garden is only ever a step away. We also fitted two new external doors in rosewood to match the windows, including the front door.

What difference has it made?

The conservatory has given Mr Grice exactly what he was after: more room, and somewhere dedicated to enjoying the garden. It has also become the room where he teaches.

From the outside, the whole house looks fresher.

“The new windows and doors have lifted the property and replaced the old tired ones.”

Mr Grice, Grange Moor

And the new front door? He kept it short and sweet.

“You like it. It works!”

Mr Grice, Grange Moor

Best of all, he got on famously with the team.

“Superb attitude, became best of friends. Had a party for them in the conservatory they built.”

Mr Grice, Grange Moor

We get handed plenty of cups of tea on jobs. A party in the room we built is right up there.

Thinking about a bungalow conservatory?

  • Can you put a conservatory on a bungalow?

Yes, and bungalows suit them well. The new room sits on the same level as the rest of the house, so it feels like part of the home from day one. We survey first to check the base and the roof line.

  • Do I need planning permission for a conservatory?

Often not, but it depends on the size and where it goes. Our guide on planning permission for conservatories explains the rules in plain English.

  • Do Calder Windows cover Grange Moor?

Yes. We fit across West Yorkshire from our showroom in Normanton, including Grange Moor and the villages between Wakefield and Huddersfield.
