The result - A home that looks lifted, feels warmer and is easier to look after

Mr Rowley’s old brown uPVC windows were getting on, a bit draughty, and not doing his period home any favours. So he swapped them for double-glazed sliding sash windows in Agate Grey.

In his words, the new windows have “lifted the look of the property”. The house is warmer too, and easier to look after.

The old windows were brown uPVC. They were showing their age and had become a bit draughty. Mr Rowley also wanted a look that suited the house better.

If your windows are draughty but otherwise sound, our guide to draught-proofing uPVC windows is worth a look first. When they are past it, new windows are the proper fix.

He started on Google, looking for a local company. Our reviews helped, and he got a few quotes. What tipped it was how we went about it.

“Had different quotes but Calder weren’t pushy like the others.” - Mr Rowley, Walton

The old windows were 15 to 20 years old and started life white. When Mr Wilks moved in, he had them painted black, which looked better than the original white. But paint can only do so much.

Double-glazed sliding sash windows

We replaced the windows at the front, side and back with double-glazed sliding sash windows. They keep the traditional look a period home deserves, with modern glazing.

The details make the difference. Decorative horns on the frames, and a single vertical bar on the front top sashes, a classic look for a house like this. At the back, the sashes are plain glass.

Agate Grey outside, white inside

Mr Rowley chose Agate Grey, a soft, light grey. It looks crisp against the render at the front and warm against the red brick at the back. Inside, the frames are white.
