A warmer, quieter home in Notton, with a Georgian-style front door to match

Customer - Mr Callaghan

Location - Notton, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Property - Detached brick house

Work done - Every window and door: a Georgian-style front door, a matching side door, bi-fold doors, French doors and new windows throughout

Timescale - Completed in three stages

The result - A home that looks a lot better and feels quieter and warmer

Mr Callaghan’s detached home in Notton needed every window and door replacing. It was a big job, done in three stages, for a customer who happily admits he isn’t the easiest to please.

The result is a house that looks a lot better, feels warmer and is quieter. And a cream Georgian-style front door that ticks every box on his list.

The house had a mix of old timber and uPVC windows and doors, all in a poor state of repair. So Mr Callaghan decided to replace the lot, every window and every door.

Is your front door due a change?

That’s how we like to work. A straight price, then the space to decide in your own time.

His builder recommended us. That’s the kind of introduction we like best, because builders see plenty of window fitters and know who does a proper job.

Choosing everything for a whole house takes time, and Mr Callaghan took his. Our team gave him the space to get every detail right.

“The sales team, particularly Wayne, were helpful and patient with us. We are meticulous in our choices and not the easiest customers to please!” - Mr Callaghan, Notton

The old windows were 15 to 20 years old and started life white. When Mr Wilks moved in, he had them painted black, which looked better than the original white. But paint can only do so much.

A Georgian-style front door

The front door is the star of the show. It’s a cream Georgian-style design with glazed side panels, set beneath an arched fanlight and the home’s pillared porch.

“We love it. It’s a great design and colour and our specific requirements were met by the team.”  - Mr Callaghan, Notton

A matching side door

The side entrance has a new door to match, with an arched glass panel that echoes the fanlight at the front

Bi-fold doors and French doors

At the back, bi-fold doors fold right back to open the house up to the patio and garden. French doors sit alongside them, giving a second way out.

New windows throughout

Every window in the house was replaced. The ones at the front have Georgian bars to suit the style of the house and the new front door.

“The house looks a lot better and is quieter and warmer.”

Mr Callaghan, Notton

A job this size is rarely straightforward, and Mr Callaghan is honest about that. What mattered to him was how our team responded. They listened, and they put things right quickly.

“Their customer aftercare is second to none. I cannot recommend them enough.”

Mr Callaghan, Notton

Asked to sum us up in a few words, he said this:

“Brilliant, excellent customer service and a great product.”

Thinking about replacing all your windows and doors?

  • Can you replace every window and door in stages?

Yes. On a bigger home it can make sense to split the work. Mr Callaghan’s house was done in three stages, and we’ll talk you through the order that suits your home.

  • Should I choose bi-fold doors or French doors?

It depends on the size of the opening and how you use the garden. This home has both. Our guide on bi-fold doors or French doors compares them side by side.

  • Do Calder Windows fit in Notton?

Yes. Notton is a short drive from our showroom in Normanton, and we fit across Wakefield and the villages around it.
