The result - “Night and day” kerb appeal, and a home that feels more secure

Mr Wilks had lived with his old windows for six years. He had even painted them black to make them look better. But in the end, enough was enough.

We fitted cottage-style windows across the front of his stone home in Monk Fryston, near Selby, plus a new contemporary side door. In his words, the difference is “night and day”.

The old windows were 15 to 20 years old and started life white. When Mr Wilks moved in, he had them painted black, which looked better than the original white. But paint can only do so much.

Cottage-style windows with Georgian bars

Every window across the front of the house was replaced with cottage-style windows. Georgian bars split the glass into smaller panes, which suits the character of the stonework.

Mr Wilks swapped painted black for a soft grey-green. It’s a great example of how the right window colour can change the whole feel of a house.

A contemporary side door

The new side door is a clean, contemporary design with a slim glazed panel, in a colour that matches the windows. It looks the part and feels far more secure.

“Looks very nice, very secure, from a safety POV it’s much better and it’s transformed the look of the house.” - Mr Wilks, Monk Fryston

Larger sashes, bigger glass area, and anthracite grey frames are the standard ask. We can match developer specifications or improve on them if you’ve inherited cheap builder-grade windows.

If your home is pre-1900, a flush sash casement will usually look more authentic than a standard lipped profile.

Next up: the back of the house

We weren’t finished. The back of the house was next on the list, including new bi-fold doors.

Mr Wilks is particular about quality (“I only buy decent stuff”), so we’ll take that. He rated the whole experience: the price, the quality, the fitters turning up when they said they would, and leaving the place clean and tidy.

“Zero complaints. They turned up when they said they would.”
